A few months ago one of West Hollywood’s most vigorous and important social services providers suffered a calamity – flood.

The National Council of Jewish Women began giving succor to women in 1909 - 105 years ago.

The National Council of Jewish Women began giving succor to women in 1909 – 105 years ago.

The organization, the National Council of Jewish Women Los Angeles (NJCWLA), which has operated on the WeHo/LA border in the Fairfax District for 53 years, found immediate shelter in neighboring businesses so that they could continue their life-saving work with the poor, disabled, seniors and the dispossessed.

Insurance money rebuilt much of the office, but did not cover everything.

In fact, it left the NJCWLA scores of thousands of dollars short of  full renovation.
