Making good on an installation promise to convene a group of the country’s gay mayors during LA TLGB Pride in West Hollywood, West Hollywood Mayor John D’Amico held that discussion late last week.

John D'Amico's time in the public limelight has been a jolt to the establishment in West Hollywood, from the naked dance troupe that graced one of his fundraisers to a ban on the sale of fur to his inauguration as Mayor.

Held under the auspices of the City of West Hollywood and Frontiers Magazine, the event was hosted by Frontiers’ news editor Karen Ocamb.

Joining Mayor D’Amico were Ron Strouse of Doylestown, Penn., a city outside of Philadelphia; Rich Waterman of Campbell, Calif.; and Jerry Pierce, the openly gay mayor of the Texas bible belt town of Valley Mills, near Waco.

As one might imagine, the big question of the night was, “How does an openly-gay man get elected mayor in Texas?”

According to the report, Mayor Pierce said that communities need things done.

“I have a reputation of being out, open and in fact quite loud. But I also have to get in a ditch and fix a water main myself when it breaks,” he said.
