Mitch O'Farrell is a candidate for Los Angeles City Council, District 13, which stands just outside the City of West Hollywood.
The District includes the neighborhoods of Hollywood, Thai Town, Little Armenia, Little Bangladesh, Koreatown, East Hollywood, Silver Lake, Temple Beaudry, Historic Filipinotown, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Atwater Village, and Glassell Park.
I am very pleased to offer my endorsement to Mitch O'Farrell for Los Angeles City Council.
The quality of life in WeHo and Los Angeles are closely related. Having a city council member with a vision for region is very valuable.
Likewise Mitch's commitment to constituent services distinguishes him from the rest of the field of candidates.
His long service in Council member Eric Garcetti's office working to resolve issues on behalf of people in the community is exactly the type of sensitivity that an elected official needs.
Mitch O'Farrell belongs to a rare breed of candidates with a thoroughgoing knowledge of the issues big and small and a strong drive to get things done. He is the antithesis of the typical municipal bureaucrat.
I am confident that I can work with Mitch O'Farrell as a city council member to advance the health and well-being of the citizens of Los Angeles and the entire county.
The ranks of openly LGBT elected officials has swelled over the last decade.
Nevertheless, we can see from the fact that gay marriage is still not legal in California that having representatives of our own community is still very important.
Mitch O’Farrell is the obvious best choice to represent Los Angeles City Council District 13.
I have worked with Mitch over the years in my role as President of AHF, whose U.S. headquarters is located in Hollywood.
While District Director, Mitch led the way in getting our Chris Brownlie Hospice reopened after repairs were made from fire damage.
The LADWP had been dragging its feet for weeks in getting the power turned back on and this was harming our clients.
As soon as we called Mitch, the problem was resolved.
Mitch O’Farrell has a fair, pragmatic approach to helping constituents and solving problems with a visionary approach to the biggest challenges facing our city.
Mitch O’Farrell has already made an enormous difference in the 13th District where he worked for nearly ten years.
I want to see him continue that success in a larger role - as our Councilmember.
Mitch can hit the ground running, and will provide exactly the kind of leadership we all need in the 13thCity Council District and in this city.
For all of these reasons I urge every voter in the 13th Council District to support Mitch O'Farrell.
Mr. O’Farrell, a 20-year Glassell Park resident, first moved to Hollywood 30 years ago, and for the last 10 years worked in the 13th District Council Office, last serving as Senior Adviser to City Councilmember Eric Garcetti.

Responding to the endorsement by longtime community activist Michael Weinstein (a few of our readers will recall his beginnings as an AIDS activist carrying a coffee can along WeHo’s Santa Monica Boulevard to collect donations to help early AIDS sufferers), Mitch O’Farrell said, “I am deeply honored to have Michael’s endorsement.
“He is the leading voice on HIV prevention and treatment, and his work has led to the health and wellbeing of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world.
“Michael Weinstein has also pushed relentlessly and successfully for legislation that prevents HIV in all communities, including adult entertainment, and I strongly support that.
“Michael has a no nonsense attitude when solving problems and I think he sees some of that in me in my approach to public service,” Said Mr. O’Farrell.
