Even though El Mirador owner Jerome Nash won the (extraordinarily unusual) right to do whatever he wants with his now-vacant building, he is again threatening to demolish it unless he gets yet another concession.
He told WeHo Patch last week he would tear the building down unless the in lieu fee the city council asked for in exchange for his developing the property as an urban inn is negated.

As part of the development agreement, the city council wanted Mr. Nash to pay the in lieu fee any other developer would pay toward the city’s affordable housing fund.
Although Mr. Nash and the City Attorney, Mike Jenkins, had agreed to a waiver of those fees, the council stuck to its guns, but allowed a 15-year payment plan.
Mr. Nash now cries foul, telling Patch that he felt the city backed out of the agreement he made with the city attorney, and because he cannot proceed with his plan without the $924,000 payment, he will tear the historic landmark down.
He is quoted as saying, “I suggested we have discussions about how we can come to an agreement and they just basically pinned down something and said, ‘Take it or leave it.”
He summed up his position thusly, “Bottom line is, the building is sitting there rotting away, and I’m going to move forward with having it disassembled if this is the way it’s going to go.”
The council members who supported his request to save the building expressed regret while also saying that they had reached the end of their patience with him.
According to the article, Mayor Jeffrey Prang said,“He has the building and he has requested to do certain things. We granted him authorization to do some things, but at this point, it’s no longer in the city’s hand. It’s up to him. If he has a proposal that he wants to come back and submit to us, we’re certainly willing to listen.”
Council member John D’Amico added that the saga, which began with Mr. Nash throwing his rent-controlled tenants out of the building in a fit of pique over window replacement, is growing old, telling Patch, “…if it’s his intention to ask us to revisit the development agreement, I don’t know of anyone who has much energy around doing that.”
Mr. Nash did not respond to a request for comment.
