We knew it would happen ever since he and his partner moved into their Trousdale Estates place, but the other shoe dropped last week - rock legend Sir Elton John and his civil partner, David Furnish, sold their two conjoined Sierra Towers condos in West Hollywood for $4.65 million.
The smaller unit features one bedroom, 11/2 bathrooms and 1,151 square feet of living space.
The larger has a den convertible to a bedroom, another bedroom and 11/2 bathrooms in 1,831 square feet.
The condos, which have city and ocean views, can be combined.
The building has 24-hour security, a doorman, an outdoor pool and a gym.
Mr. John, now age 65, has won multiple Grammy Awards and shares an Oscar for the "Lion King" song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and won a Grammy for singing it.
His West Hollywood roots go back the very beginning of his career, which kicked off in America with an August 25, 1970 performance at the city’s Troubadour.
Le Dome, a chic Sunset Strip restaurant founded in 1977, boasted Sir John as one of its founders.
His Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Award Party moved to WeHo’s Pacific Design Center in 2001 and has been held there since.
His civil partner, David Furnish, age 49, directed "Elton John: Tantrums & Tiaras" (1997).
He was an announcer and executive producer of the television series "Spectacle: Elvis Costello With ..." (2008-11).
The pair recently moved into their "walled, gated, and vaguely boomerang-shaped" Trousdale home that listed for $7.695 million.
It has three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a staff suite, a pool, and a cabana with its own lounge, fitness area, and bathroom.
Sir John is known to maintain homes in seaside city of Nice in the south of France, the canal criss-crossed pièce de urban résistance of Venice (Italy), and a "12,000-plus-square-foot," high-floor condo at the Park Place on Peachtree complex in Atlanta, GA.
The couple’s primary residence in the U.K. on a 37-acre estate in the Windsor area just west of London's Heathrow Airport.
Sierra Towers has long been the choice of Hollywood stars, rock 'n' roll gods and showbiz moguls alike and brims with colorful tales that have only added to its appeal and mystique.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there is no other residential building in Los Angeles that has housed such a diverse and large group of notables: former residents include David Geffen, Sidney Poitier and Lindsay Lohan. (see diagram below)
Cher and Joan Collins are current residents, and Courteney Cox recently bought a two-bedroom, upper-floor unit at the 9255 Doheny Road tower.
Real estate magnate and owner of the Pacific Design Center, Charles Cohen, also holds a pair of condos there.
The Sierra Towers was developed for $12 million by Walter and Leo Minskoff, whose family firm also built New York's Minskoff Theatre.
The building opened in 1966, just as the adjacent Sunset Strip was roaring back to life again, to become the tallest residential structure in Los Angeles.
The architect, Jack A. Charney, who studied under Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler, said in a 1965 Los Angeles Times article that he designed the building "to take maximum advantage of views of city, mountains and ocean."
