Beverly Hills suffered its second small earthquake of the week when a magnitude-3.5 earthquake struck at 12:03 am Friday, September 7, shaking a large swath of the Los Angeles area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The temblor's epicenter in Beverly Hills was placed at Reeves Street just south of Wilshire Boulevard (three blocks east of Rodeo Drive - 34.066N and 118.398W).
The location was less than one mile from the West Hollywood border.

The USGS placed the epicenter’s hypocentral depth at a mere 0.9 miles deep.
The temblor was felt over a large area because it was so shallow.
The USGS had reports of shaking from as far away as Eagle Rock (15 miles).
Lt. Lincoln Hoshino of the Beverly Hills Police Department told City News Service that the department had received no reports of injuries or damage from the earthquake.
That said, "We felt a pretty good jolt here," Lt. Hoshino admitted.
Beverly Hills and Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters jumped into action to check for damage to infrastructure.
They found no injuries, deaths or damage, said LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey.
Nor did the Los Angeles County Fire Department, according to their dispatcher.
Although the fault that moved was not immediately identified, Beverly Hills sits atop the West Beverly Hills Lineament fault, an extension of the Newport-Inglewood Fault System and the the Santa Monica fault, a fault also clipping West Hollywood’s southern boundary with Los Angeles, a densely built commercial area that includes Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Beverly Center shopping mall.

West Hollywood city staff put out a press release on Friday, August 1, acknowledging September as National Preparedness Month, saying in an understatement that this happens to be a “great time to make sure you have the needed tools to survive a crisis or major disaster.”
(By now you’ve figured out that staff didn’t actually arrange for the little temblor as a demonstration, but read on for valuable safety tips).
They suggest that West Hollywood residents and businesses should prepare to be self-sufficient for at least three days after an emergency.
After a major disaster, electricity, gas, water, and telephones may not be working.
Transportation routes and businesses may be closed.
Services in the City of West Hollywood may also be impacted as staff may be handling serious incidents during the initial hours of the disaster.
It also may take some time for public safety personnel to reach those in need.
The city encourages residents and business owners to “get prepared for emergencies by taking a few simple steps - putting together a disaster kit, making an emergency plan, and staying informed.
