Every Wednesday        

Toddler Storytime at 11:15 a.m.

Toddler storytime is designed for children aged 2 to 4.

Reading readiness and listening skills are enhanced through a variety of books, fingerplays, songs, and an art activity. Each session runs between 20-30 minutes.

 

Life History Writing Class at 2 p.m.

Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles sponsors a life history writing class for adults. 

Published writer Bea Mitz facilitates the class in the West Hollywood Room.


Family Storytime at 3:30 p.m.

Family Storytime builds children’s language skills by involving the entire family with interactive stories, rhymes and songs.  

Parents, caregivers and younger children (ages 3-6) are encouraged to attend.

 

Every Saturday

BookPALS at 11 a.m.
Come to the West Hollywood Library for the BookPals family storytime. 

Members of the Screen Actors Guild read stories to children and their families.

 

First Tuesday of Every Month

Women’s Advisory Board Book Club, “Women and Books”, at 7 p.m

This book club for women highlights books written by women authors.

This month’s title is The Anti-Romantic Child: A Story of Unexpected Joy, by Priscilla Gilman.

 

Last Tuesday of Every Month

Lambda Lit Book Club at 7 p.m.

This book club highlights a heady mix of LGBT classics, unheralded gems, and buzz-worthy new releases. 

This month’s title is Tango by Justin Bond.

Saturday, September 8

The Art of Storymaking from 9 a.m. –12 p.m.
The Friends of the West Hollywood Library present this free program for adults in honor of the County of Los Angeles Public Library Centennial.  Participants will create handmade books in a workshop that combines art, craft, and creative writing. 

Artist Debra Disman, owner of Artifactory Studio, will teach hands-on techniques in book structure and how to create visual and written content for one-of-a-kind creations.

Sunday September 16

Install:WeHo - The City of West Hollywood will host INSTALL:WeHo, the city’s first annual queer art pop-up village on Sunday, September 16, 2012 from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the El Tovar parking lot and ONE Archives Gallery & Museum, 626 N. Robertson Boulevard. 

INSTALL:WeHo is an interactive exhibition showcasing the curated and juried work of LBGTQ-minded artists in the Greater Los Angeles community.

INSTALL:WeHo will appear overnight in a caravan of U-­Haul trucks, each dedicated to, and curated by an individual, organization, gallery or performance troupe, but together forming a pop-­up art “city.”

INSTALL: WeHo will feature numerous works by contemporary queer artists; a selection of musical, spoken-word, comedic and movement performances organized by APT3F; a screening truck with videos by queer artists and much more!

The festival is free, with a suggested donation of $10. Some exhibits may contain adult content and may not be suitable for all audiences.

Author presentation with Carole Brody Fleet at 7 p.m.

The loss of a partner can be devastating, oftentimes leaving the survivor feeling both alone and marginalized.

These feelings can be greatly magnified when surviving partners are members of the LGBT community.

What are the emotional ramifications of the loss of a partner and how do you move forward into a life filled with hope and happiness?

These questions and more will be discussed by Carole Brody Fleet, award-winning author of Widows Wear Stilettos.

Reception and lecture on Michael Childers’ AUTHOR, AUTHOR exhibit at 6:30 p.m.

From August 27, 2012 through October 6, 2012 world-renowned photographer Michael Childers' exhibition AUTHOR, AUTHOR will be on view at the West Hollywood Public Library.

The West Hollywood Library fund is holding a reception and lecture with Childers at the library on Thursday, September 27th at 6:30 p.m. at which Childers will gladly engage in dialogue with the public about his work.
