The West Hollywood Women’s Advisory Board presents “Understanding Our Power: A Roundtable Discussion about Women and Equality,” a power breakfast-style event commemorating the 92nd anniversary of the 19th amendment, which granted women the right to vote in the United States.

At the Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY)’s behest, the U.S. Congress in 1971 designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.”
They selected the date to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote, the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that began in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York.
The annual observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality.
West Hollywood, as a supporter of all people’s full rights, will host the roundtable discussion from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2012, at the West Hollywood Park Public Meeting Room Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

Dianne Callister, President of the Singer Foundation and Chair of the Women’s Studies Council in the School of Religion at Claremont Graduate University, will moderate the discussion with special guest speakers.
Guests speakers will include Madeline Di Nonno, Executive Director of The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media and See Jane; Judi Miller Levy, LCSW, SEP, Clinical Program Coordinator for the National Council of Jewish Women/LA’s Women Helping Women ~ Community Counseling & Support Services; and employment and labor attorney Angela J. Reddock, Esq., Founder and Managing Partner, The Reddock Law Group.
The program will be televised on CATV CityChannel 10 and available on demand at www.weho.org.

The West Hollywood Women's Advisory Board (WAB) advises the City Council on policies and other issues pertaining to women, advocates on behalf of women's rights, and provides programming addressing women's concerns.
Admission is free. Two hours of free parking with validation is available at the 5-story West Hollywood Park/Library Parking Garage.
To RSVP and for more information, please call (323) 848-6823 or email whwedrsvy@gmail.com For the deaf and hard of hearing, please call

2012 Women’s Equality Event Speaker/Facilitator List
Dianne Callister (Moderator) is President of the Singer Foundation and Chair of the Women’s Studies Council in the School of Religion at Claremont Graduate University.
Dianne believes strongly in giving back to her community and improving lives through improving opportunity. This belief stretches back to her early childhood, having been abandoned as a baby at a Salvation Army hospital. In adulthood, she has acted on her beliefs and has served on numerous boards and consulted with schools, organizations and government leaders across the nation.

Madeline Di Nonno (Guest Speaker) is the executive director of The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media and its programming arm See Jane. Founded in 2004, the institute is the only organization working to improve gender diversity for children among entertainment and media companies.
Through cutting-edge research, training, strategic guidance and advocacy, it carries out its mission of transforming how the entertainment community depicts children, sensitizing the industry to gender portrayals, and reducing stereotyping in entertainment and media targeting children 11 and under.
Angela J. Reddock (Guest Speaker) is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles Community College District, a seven-member board which oversees the nine community colleges in the City and County of Los Angeles.
Ms. Reddock was appointed to the Board on April 11, 2007 to fill the seat vacated by former Trustee Michael Waxman, who resigned from elected office. Ms. Reddock's term will expire on June 30, 2009.
Judi Miller Levy (Guest Speaker) is an experienced therapist and program coordinator, with expertise in somatic experiencing and trauma-focused treatment.
Ms. Miller Levy is a long-time member of the Westside Domestic Violence Network, a trained facilitator with the Male Violence Prevention Project (MVPP), and a certified sexual assault crisis counselor.
