Sunday’s quarterfinal round of the Olympic women’s archery competition found West Hollywood archer Khatuna Lorig and her teammates falling just short of a medal round, losing to China.
Ms. Lorig, 38, who taught actress Jennifer Lawrence how to shoot with a recurve bow for the 2012 film The Hunger Games, will compete today in the women’s individual round.
The battle with the Chinese team went down to the final arrows, with that team edging out Team USA (with fellow- Olympians Miranda Leek and Jennifer Nichols) after leading by only one bulls eye going into the round, but getting five t Team US’s one bull on Sunday.

Going into the competition, hopes were high for Team US.
"We all want a gold medal," said Khatuna Lorig, who has represented three countries during her career and won one medal. "If not, we'll get silver. We'll take bronze. Any medal will be good."
The United States has not won a medal in women's archery since 1988.
Ms. Lorig, a native of Tbilisi, Georgia who lives in WeHo with her husband (who is also an archer), has competed since 1988.
She earned individual bronze and team gold medals at the 1990 European Championships in Barcelona competing for the Soviet Union.
She also earned individual and team gold medals at the 1992 European Championships in Malta.
Ms. Lorig earned a bronze medal in women's team competing for the Soviet “Unified Team” at the 1992 Olympics and went on to compete for Georgia at the 1996 Olympics, and in the 2000 Olympics as Khatuna Lorigi.
She became a naturalized U.S. citizen and qualified to compete in the women's individual archery event at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

There not only did she carry the US flag in the opening ceremonies, but she finished her ranking round with a total of 635 points, giving her the 26th seed for the final competition bracket in which she faced Virginie Arnold in the first round, beating the archer from France with 107-105.
In the second round she was too strong for Alison Williamson with 112-109 and via Ana Rendón (107-95) she achieved her place in the quarter final.
There she just missed beating eventual bronze medalist Yun Ok-Hee who won the match with 111-105.
Team US has high hopes for her in the individual matches. “Khatuna is in better condition than any other Olympian on the team,” USA Archery coach Kisik Lee told NBC4. “She is very strong mentally and physically. She has really been a great addition for us.”
The 38-year-old Lorig competed in the women’s individual ranking round Friday at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, where the field of 64 was ranked.
The event will resume Monday with individual match play, where a loss eliminates the competitor.
The field will be reduced to 16 at the completion of Wednesday’s competition.
The round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and medal round will all be held next Thursday.
Ms. Lorig finished fifth in the event in the 2008 Olympics, the best performance by a US archer, male or female.
