The City of West Hollywood has launched a discussion group called SHE to provide an open space for building relationships, promoting dialog and creating solutions for issues currently facing lesbians.
The SHE – WeHo Lesbians’ Discussion Group will meet the second Wednesday of every month at the West Hollywood Park Community Conference Room at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
This month’s topic is “Sex in the City.” Discussion topics will include: why sex matters (it does!), sex on the first date, lesbian one-night stands: fact or fiction, to use toys or not to use toys, how to avoid lesbian “bed death” and keep sex alive in a long-term relationship, and sex and aging: why older women are hot.

All SHE discussion groups are free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Validated parking will be available at the five-story West Hollywood Park Parking Garage.
For more information, please visit www.weho.org/she or email she@weho.org For the deaf and hard of hearing, please call (323) 848-6496.

Modern Family
(Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 7:30 pm)
With acceptance and the beginnings of marriage equality comes family. We will explore what the new picture of a family looks like. We will hear from a diverse group of lesbians and what they're experiences with this evolving theme are.
Discussion:
* Marriage equality - why it's so important (or not)
* Mommy and me - what it means to be the adult in the room
* Adoption - love and the law
* Sperm donors - known vs. bank
* Extended families: divorce, single parenting
* Choosing not to become a parent
* Family and cultural traditions: holidays, birthdays, funerals, and weddings - what do your traditions look like?

Money Matters
(Wednesday, September 12th, 2012 7:30 pm)
We will have the opportunity to learn why economic empowerment is so fundamental to our happiness and survival. Money matters are a consistent struggle in our community and we will discuss all aspects of finance, hearing from a wide range of women across the economic spectrum.
Discussion:
* Knowing and owning your value in the workplace
* Growing your nest egg - investing, saving, income taxes, living will, etc.
* Sexual harassment - what is it and how to handle it if it happens to you
* Business opportunities for women in WEHO
* Employee vs. employer?
* Being out in the workplace
Power to the People
(Wednesday, October 10th, 2012 7:30 pm)

Taking it to the streets is not just about showing up for the Pride Parade! Political and community action are the reasons lesbians have won their rights. We will discuss why it's so important to be involved and where best to put your energies.
Discussion:
* The necessities of political action
* Grass roots activism - the ins and outs
* To run or not to run?
* Local vs. national - which to focus on
* Activate your activism in WEHO
* Coming out is political
* How to volunteer
Lesbian Culture Now
(Thursday, November 14th, 2012 7:30 pm)
In this month's program we will explore what it means to be a lesbian in 2012, which cultural models we identify with, and which ones we do not. We will have the opportunity to learn more about the lesbian cultural identities that empower our sisterhood, why we hold those identities so dear, and how we can create new role models for the generations coming up.
Discussion:
* What is lesbian culture?
* To embrace labels or not to, that is the question?
* Butch vs. Fem
* WEHO meeting places

* Diversity on our community
* Cultural expressions and Cultural Diversity
* Pride Parades and Festivals - how are they relevant?
* Owning our culture and shaping our own destiny
Dykes on Hikes!
(Wednesday, December 12th, 2012 7:30 pm)
Lesbians face a myriad of unique health issues. Come learn what our challenges are and how to best address them. Listen to the experiences of other women and share stories of your own as we work together as a community to focus on our health - body, mind, and spirit.
Discussion:
* Regular paps and mammograms
* Access to lesbian friendly providers
* Women's cancers
* Pregnancy
* Abortion
* Aging and menopause
* Group brainstorm - ways to keep ourselves healthy
How the discussions work: The facilitator of the group will present a topic and the women in attendance will come up with the insight and discussion.
Parking: Validated parking is available in the five-story parking structure on the south side of the property. That is the structure with the huge Shepard Fairey "Elephant" mural on it. Please DO NOT park in the library parking lot.
