“Elemental” Seven Large-Scale Public Art Sculptures to Depart West Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD – The seven large-scale abstract sculptures the City of West Hollywood hosted to wide acclaim, are being de-installed Wednesday, July 11, 2012 through Friday, July 13, 2012.  Located along the grassy median of Santa Monica Boulevard starting at Doheny Drive, the sculptures have been embraced by the community during their yearlong stay.  This artistic gateway to West Hollywood provides visitors and residents alike with engaging and innovative artwork through the city’s Art on the Outside Program.

"Elemental" as captured by West Hollywood photographer Richard Settle.

The exhibition was the result of a collaborative agreement between the City of West Hollywood and The Sculpture Foundation, an international not-for-profit organization that owns the collection of sculptures.

The sculptures to be removed from Santa Monica Boulevard include: Lintel by Emilie Brzezinski,Teatro XVII  by Herk Van Tongeren, Wave Hill by Robert Ressler, Matters of the Moment by Mike Gyampo, Bucci by Peter Voulkos, Flora Exemplar by Andrew Rogers and Between Essence and Existence by Bruce Lindsay.

The City of West Hollywood has made a strong commitment to providing accessible arts and cultural events programming for its residents and visitors. The City formed the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission to identify the arts needs of the community, analyze methods of fulfilling these needs, and promote activities to broaden the opportunities for citizen participation in the arts.

Working in conjunction with other City departments, residents and local nonprofit arts organizations, the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission oversees a number of projects and programs to meet the City's mandate to broaden citizen participation in the arts.

The Sculpture Foundation, Inc. (TSF) is a charitable and educational organization dedicated to providing exhibitions and contemporary landmark public artworks for communities.

For more information please contact Andrew Campbell, Cultural Affairs Administrator for the City of West Hollywood, at (323) 848-6883 or acampbell@weho.org or Paula Stoeke at The Sculpture Foundation, at (310) 264-2400 or visit www.sculpturefoundation.org
