With detectives saying they seek Jacob Anthonisen for fear of his safety and refusing to release any details about the victim, Steven John Simmons, the mystery surrounding Mr. Simmon’s murder only deepens with time.
Mr. Simmons body was found badly decomposed on the border of West Hollywood and Los Angeles wrapped inside a vehicle parked at the corner of Willoughby and Genesee Avenues on Saturday, June 9.

The discovery came after neighbors complained of a foul stench emanating from a black Cadillac Escalade SUV that had been parked there for at least two weeks.
The vehicle had two street sweeping parking tickets on its windshield, both would have been left on previous Mondays, according to signage on that side of the street.
At first, because of bloating due to the decomposition, authorities refused to say whether or not the body found was human, but disclosed the next day that it was a male of undetermined race and age, and that the case had been turned over to homicide for investigation.
A couple days later the coroner’s office identified the body as Mr. Simmons’ of Running Springs, a small community next to Big Bear and said he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Homicide detectives also disclosed that the SUV belonged to Mr. Simmons’ step-brother, Jacob Anthonisen, whom they called a “person of interest” in the case.
Many details emerged about Mr. Anthonisen, including time served in an Arizona prison for drug possession with intent to sell and ownership of an art gallery in Hollywood which drew celebs such as Lindsey Lohan, but so far little has been learned or disclosed about the victim.
Police told a paper that covers the Running Springs/Big Bear community that Mr. Anthonisen’s status as a person of interest indicates he might have been a victim of foul play, and not necessarily a suspect in his step-brother’s killing.
Police say they seek Jacob Anthonisen.
“We’re looking for him to make sure he’s all right,” Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide Detective Frank Carrillo told The Mountain News on Wednesday.
According to the publication, Detective Carrillo said investigators are not releasing details of the crime.
“Everything’s being kept pretty tight-lipped,” Det. Carrillo told them, saying he could not estimate when further case updates will be issued.
He said that information about Mr. Simmons was being kept confidential at the family’s request.
He declined to provide information on how Simmons got to Los Angeles, whether a car registered to him has been located, when and where he was last seen alive, where he was killed and even what he did for a living, said the newspaper.
The Mountain News reports trying to find someone in the small community who knew Mr. Simmons, to no avail.
They say Mr. Simmons apparently kept a low profile in Running Springs, which has a population of only 4,862 according to the 2010 census.
The inquiries the reporters made with “longtime residents” failed to turn up anyone who knew the man.
Los Angeles Police detectives are asking anyone with information about the killing or Anthonisen’s whereabouts to contact Detective Carrillo or Detective Jay King at (213) 486-6890.
