The deceased, John Steven Simmons, was discovered dead in the back of Jacob Anthonisen's SUV.
As homicide investigators try to understand how John Steven Simmons came to be left for as many as two weeks wrapped up in the back of a Cadillac Escalade dead of a gunshot wound to the torso, they focus their attention on finding and questioning Jacob Anthonisen, the man’s step-brother.
(Editor: We mistakenly reported Mr. Anthonisen as Mr. Simmon's brother-in-law yesterday; we regret the error.)
Mr. Simmons’ body was found in his step-brother Jacob Anthonisen’s SUV; the vehicle had two street-sweeping parking tickets on it and was parked on the Monday - and Los Angeles side - of a street that forms a boundary between LA and West Hollywood.
Mr. Anthonisen, according to friends and family, disappeared around May 26-27.
Called a “person of interest” in the murder case, Mr. Anthonisen served nearly two years of a three year sentence in an Arizona prison for drug possession with the intent to sell.
He was released in 2005
An acquaintance of his, who asked not to be named, told WeHo News that Mr. Anthonisen said about that affair, “I got in trouble in Arizona; I had a half a pound [of marijuana] and got caught.”
In recent years, Mr. Anthonsen has operated an art gallery called Peanut Gallery, with a "presence in New York and Los Angeles," according to its site.
That Los Angeles gallery itself has been recenty shut down.
Mr. Anthonisen's left his last known residence "years ago," according to his landlord, who evicted him for non-payment of rent.
Speaking to the number of photos that have popped up with Mr. Anthonisen alongside celebrities, WeHo News' anonymous source said, “Jacob was definitely a part of the Hollywood scene, but definitely more about getting people to sell his art. I’ve never even seen him drink.”
That source said that Mr. Anthonisen,” was the quiet guy in the corner who talks to all the hot girls.”
Police seek Jacob Anthonisen as a "person of interest" in Mr. Simmon's death.
The friend said that a female with 10-year long friendship with Mr. Anthonisen could not say whether he was gay or straight.
“He’s more asexual than anything,” they said.
Family has posted on Facebook that they fear for his safety, or worse, that he may be somehow involved in his step-brother’s death, with his sister Melissa Atkin writing, “Thank you everybody for all your prayers. This is the hardest thing my family has ever had to go through... Only god can help us now,... :(”
Los Angeles detectives are looking for him, and will not say if they suspect he is dead or in hiding, merely that he is a “person of interest.”
Mr. Anthonisen is 33 years old, stands 5′ 7″ tall and weighs in at 150 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.
