Cars, peds and bikes. These were the bywords of the Avenues Streetscape Project Stakeholders Working Group during its third session to discuss the mobility phase of its studies and discussions.

The group met in the community room at the Sheriff’s Station Tuesday, June 11.
A full compliment of about twenty-five business operators and residents, some of them city commission members, huddles over proposed streetscape designs for the major streets in West Hollywood West and to present is small groups individual concerns and observations.
Of particular interest to this observer was the well-modulated conversation – no yelling, no one getting up in rancor. Civilization.
Recently, I wrote a short piece about the travails of a pedestrian when traversing certain sections of our city’s sidewalks and street intersections.
If this group continues in the same fashion as they have so far done, my woes will be erased.
A quick trip to the city’s web site: http://www.weho.org/avenuesproject, will illustrate the breadth of the study and give some indication of the city’s commitment to its Long Range and Mobility Planning.
Residents who want to know about some city activities owe it to themselves to spend time to read the well-prepared outline of the Working Group’s activities and conclusions.
Nothing hidden here.
It seemed that most of the Transportation Department, including the City Engineer were on hand to observe and hear the comments of the discussion group.

Since the streets most affected in the planning are Melrose, Robertson and Beverly Boulevard, commercial interests were well-represented.
The health of our business community has a great bearing on the well-being of the residential areas, it should be emphasized.
The principal urban design consultant, Patricia Smith, is well-known to WeHo, as the person who prepared the Master Plan for the renovation of Santa Monica Boulevard.
She joins other experts in landscaping design and city mobility in shepherding the project.
This exciting and important activity is under the firm hand of Project Manger Chris Corrao of the Long Range Planning Division.
The next meeting is schedule for mid-July.
