Greg Louganis has joined Old Dogs, New Tricks.
The laugh out loud, sexy and ‘serialized’ gay comedy, “Old Dogs & New Tricks,” set in our own WEHO, has announced the casting of out Olympian champ, Greg Louganis, for a three episode arc for season two of the popular web series.
Mr. Louganis first shot to fame as an Olympic athlete in 1976. Winning a Silver medal at age 16, he went on to become the only male to win gold medals on both 3 meter springboard and 10 meter platform in consecutive Olympic Games (1984, 1988) – and is widely considered the greatest diver in history.
In 1995, he stunned the world with his courage when came out as a gay man on both Barbara Walters’ 20/20 and the Oprah Winfrey Show.
He continues to work with the Olympics as Vice President of the U.S. Olympian Association, for animal causes, and as a tireless advocate for diversity, GLBT and HIV issues. He is also writing a new book about creative learning and peak performance.
“Greg is not only just a gay role model,” says show creator/actor Leon Acord. “He’s the epitome of the vital, attractive, over-40 gay man that our show is all about! We are honored that he’s coming aboard”!
Other great guest stars will pop up in season two, including veteran actor Ian Buchanan (“Days of Our Lives,” “General Hospital,” “Bold and the Beautiful”); popular actress Terri Garber (“Dynasty,” “North & South”); and the successful actor, author, director and veteran gay activist Michael Kearns, who also has the distinction of having earned the title of “the first openly gay actor in Hollywood,” via his role as “Grant Tracy Saxon Warner Books” in 1974’s The Happy Hustler.
Doug Spearman also joins the cast.
Old Dogs & Tricks (www.olddogsnewtrickstheseries.com) debuted in August, 2011 and has since achieved over 60,000 individual hits on YouTube.
In the crowded world of “web-tainment,’ that’s a bona fide success story. And the blogosphere has been lighting up, raving about the show, its well-defined characters, hilarious and racy interludes, and fun guest star turns.
This May, the LA Web Series Festival bestowed the series with awards for ‘Outstanding Dramedy’ and ‘Outstanding Ensemble.’
The great cast of characters includes creator/writer/star Leon Acord as talent agent Nathan Adler, Curt Bonnem as sex-crazed Brad King, and TV and stage vet David Pevsner as frustrated house-husband Ross Stein.
It doesn’t hurt to have the hunky and humorous Thom Beirdz, known to daytime soap fans as Phillip Chancellor III on “Young & the Restless,” in his recurring guest star role as the love interest of “Muscles Carter,” played by the hunky and humorous Jeffrey Patrick Olson.
In one more bit of fun casting news, out actor Doug Spearman (known for both cable and film versions of “Noah’s Arc”) joins the cast as Ross’ as yet-to-be-seen spouse.
Season Two of “Old Dogs & New Tricks” is in campaign funding mode (check out their indiegogo site: http://www.indiegogo.com/olddogsnewtricksseason2), and in pre-production for a January 2013 launch with ten new episodes.
